Cupid’s Revue

Life has been a whirlwind, and when I haven’t been working, I’ve been thinking about, waiting for, and dreaming of Pole.  The next showcase (Cupid’s Revue; go to http://verticalfusionstudio.com/news/events/cupids-pole-dance-revue-2/ for more info on the show)

This is called Bottle Rocket. Thanks for the pics, Nina!

is in a little less than two weeks.  Ron and I still have a lot of work to do on our duet.  It’s all choreographed, but we need to run it quite a few times to make sure we A) have our timing down and B) neither of us is standing onstage for too long doing absolutely nothing!  As for my solo, I don’t have every single beat choreographed exactly, and — funny enough, being the dance control freak that I am — that is exactly how I want it.  I’m leaving flexibility and space for a little bit of freestyle, and to build in new tricks that I am learning.

Speaking of new tricks: I took a class from Waeli last week, and was reminded of how important it is to learn from new teachers.  New people bring new and unseen tricks or combinations to the studio and help to add spice to routines.  Frankly stated, I was on fire in her class!  I got so many awesome moves that were totally new to me, and a few that I’ve been dreaming of and working on for a long time.

Waeli showed me a modified version of Flag that uses some glute and lower back muscles, and I was able to get that.  Flag is absolutely BRUTAL when you have long (and long equals heavy) legs, so I was pretty thrilled to get anything even close.  I also got Lunchbox.  Nina caught a shot just as I was coming out of it, so I don’t have photographic evidence to share, but this is a move that I have been lusting after for about 16 months.  It takes a lot of courage, and a lot of arm strength, so I’ve been working my way towards it slowly and steadily.  For a picture of someone else doing it, copy and paste http://www.celestialpole.co.uk/location.htm It’s the crazy upside down move on that page.  I left the studio feeling very happy and quite refreshed; it had been a really long time since I last got a new move.  So, in the spirit of the freestyle and new moves I want to build into my routine, expect to see a couple of these during Cupid’s Revue!

This is Bird. No hands at all; one ankle is locking the other leg in place so I can hang!!
